Press Release on the Results of the Fund Raising Luncheon Held on 8th December 2007 at Hilton Hotel Nairobi

The national campaign of fundraising targeting 1000 female student scholarships was successfully launched on December 8, 2007 at Hilton Hotel, Nairobi . Besides Somali community in Nairobi , UN agencies such as UNDP, UNESCO, UNICEF, and UNAIDS were present. The fundraising started from 230 scholarships which already were granted.

In this occassion, we are very pleased to announce that 74 full female student sponsorships covering the complete 4 years of study was pledged and paid. The total scholarship raised so far totals 304 female students; thus the balance of 696 scholarships remains to reach our target of 1000 scholarships.

We repeatedly call upon the people of Somalia, higher education institutions and international community to take the issue of women's rights and education in higher priorities.

We also expresses our sincere gratitude to all those who participated and contributed in any capacity.
