MU/SCWE People Attend Workshop on Irrigation Systems Management in Eastern Africa

On 27th October 2004, the IFRA (Institute for Research in Africa) sponsored a workshop on Irrigation Systems Management in Eastern Africa held in Nairobi, Kenya. Introduction was made by Dr. Nathalie Gomes while Mr Charlery de la Masselière, director of IFRA-Nairobi, presented the research institute and its programmes. He outlined that the collective book that will be edited by IFRA will only be the first step of a 4 years research programme that will be submitted for funding to various organisations and institutions.
During the workshop, seven different papers on irrigation systems management, national policies and lessons learned from those projects in Somalia, Kenya, Ethiopia and Tanzania were presented. The structure of a collective book on irrigation systems in East Africa was discussed, and agreement on the contents and the format of each paper reached. Also, plans on the details of a three years research program to be carried were discussed.
