Mogadishu University Receives Support fund from the American
Government
On Tuesday November 9th 2004, Mr. Michael P. Zorick, the
United States First Secretary for Somalia Affairs presently
based at the American Embassy in Nairobi, Kenya handed over
a check for the amount of $23,277 to Mr. Hussein Iman, the
Director of Programs at Mogadishu University. These funds
were awarded to Mogadishu University so it can purchase the
much needed materials such as books and computers for its
library. The handing over of these modest funds is part of
a renewed commitment from the part of the United States Government
to re-engage in the overall developmental programs in Somalia.
Mr. Zorick and his office have recently been active in the
Somali reconciliation process as well as the activities of
the civil society organizations in which Mogadishu University
plays a leading role. This is an attempt from the part of
the United States Government to encourage active organizations
in the fields of education and research to train and produce
the highly desired labor force required in this rebuilding
stage of Somalia's post civil war period.
In his capacity as the Director of Programs and Public Relations,
Mr. Hussein Iman showed his gratitude and appreciation to
Mr. Zorick, the United States First Secretary for Somalia
and he re-assured him that MU is committed to cooperating
with the American Government and agencies in providing services
in the field of education and research. Also, Mr. Iman reiterated
the University's dedication in working towards improved educational
programs for its students as well as the public at large.
