Campaign Assistance for Flood Victims

The torrential rains lasted for four weeks rained in Somalia and their neighboring countries causing extensive floods that devastated wide range of agricultural land and large grassing land that the pastorals used to grass their animals.

These tragedies afflicted death of souls and loss of property in 6 riverine provinces. The natural disaster also displaced approximately 50000 Somali families and affected 1000000 individuals.

In responding this disaster, Mogadishu University Administration and academic staff as well as the students including MU alumni in side and outside of the country started a campaign to collect relief contributions to help flood victims making slogan "Pay a dolar to save a victim". They began collecting money, medical supplies, sacks and other needed things for prevention from continuing flooding crises.

Dr. Ali Sheik Ahmed Abubakar, the President of the University in speech at a Preparation meeting with MU Staff, Professors,& Students said that to help and save such victims who are on the brink of death is obligatory.

Horn of Africa is not chock-full water places, but what causes the floods are the bad way of dealing with the environment. MU president said that such cases could be overcome with unity, cooperation and knowledge. Finally, he prayed Allah's mercy & reward for all participants in this contribution, hoping save for effected people.
