MCEC Implements Aid Activities to the
IDPs (Internally Displaced People) in Mogadishu
MCEC Project aims the development of Somali mother and child
by structured educational and health service activities, also
the project aims the eradication of FGM in Somalia. The project
is implemented by Mogadishu University in partnership with
Norwegian Nursing Association (NoNA).
On April 19th 2006, the field work members of MCEC visited
and assessed deeply the health situation of the residents
in three IDPs camps in Mogadishu. The field work members visited
three camps which are Fardows, Kasab I & II and Elwak.

MCEC field work members carried out health assessment to
the families living in the camps. The assessed people include
adult sick people, pregnant mothers, lactating mothers and
children.
On April 20th 2006, MCEC distributed gift essential drugs
to the residents of the above mentioned camps in Mogadishu.
During the distribution of the essential drugs, MCEC field
work members held health education programs about personal,
home & environmental hygiene, nutrition (breastfeeding,
care of pregnant mother and care of child), and prevention
of diarrhea to the residents of the IDPs.

On April 21st 2006, MCEC distributed plastic sheets for huts
to the families of the three IDPs camps in Mogadishu.

It is worth to note that the distribution of the plastic
sheets encountered with Gu' rainy season in a time IDPs families
are in dire need to this kind of assistance.
On April 24th 2006, MCEC held seminar and workshop on FGM
for 33 members selected from the residents of the three IDPs
in Mogadishu. The participants in the workshop discussed the
difficulties and health problems of FGM.
