Mogadishu University was established in the former Mohamud Ahmed Ali Secondary School near Sana' Square in Mogadishu in 1997. Currently, however, MU is located in five different locations within the city. The first site is located in Sinai Square in the former Sinai Hotel building. In this site, the faculties of Education, Economics and Management Science, Law and Shari'a and Arts & Humanities are situated.
In addition, there are three other sites near Number Afar (KM 4) area. These three sites are, the High Institute of Nursing, the Administrations building and the faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology. All these three locations near Number Afar are in a walking distance from each other. The fifth site is Located at Al- Baraka area near the former Milk Factory. This site is the home of the Center for Community Services and Continuing Education as well as the future home of the Graduate Program of MU.
Now underway is the construction of a new campus for MU. The project encompasses buildings for all faculties, recreational facilities, student residence and all the other required amenities. The project is expected to be complete in its entirety by the year 2020. However, the construction of the education building is now underway and ready to be operational by 2004.
The new campus is located near the former Khat market, three KM North of the main Industrial Road between Arafat Clinic and the former national TV station.
